Pastoral Ministry
In preparation for a vocation in pastoral ministry students receive holistic training which attends to their intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and relational growth. In addition to the core curriculum, Comprehensive Seminar, and electives of their own choosing, students do their Supervised Ministry in a pastoral setting, under the supervision of an experienced pastor. This area of emphasis requires four courses in applied theology: Introduction to Preaching or another preaching course; Introduction to Pastoral Care; either The Work of the Pastor or Pastoral Spirituality; and a religious education course. Students planning to be pastors are also encouraged to take Clinical Pastoral Education. CPE is a program which allows students to practice pastoral skills in a supervised clinical setting—usually a general hospital or psychiatric health facility.
