Vision. Value. Quality. These are the forces that motivate sound stewardship of resources in the 21st century. Individuals who understand their God-inspired responsibility to be good stewards of their resources recognize that faithful philanthropy does not fund every request, and that financial need is not the sole criterion for determining legitimate causes. Institutions worthy of financial support need a vision for the future of their work. They have a responsibility to make a case for why their work matters. They must be able to demonstrate the high quality of their endeavors, and identify the values that form the foundation of their endeavors.

At Earlham School of Religion, our vision grows directly from our mission to prepare men and women for Christian ministry in the manner of Friends. Our tag line, though only six words long, goes directly to the heart of the matter: For learning. For leading. Among Friends. We are an educational institution that prepares leaders for the work of ministry, in a context shaped by the values and principles of the Religious Society of Friends. ESR serves a broad spectrum of Friends, and is a crossroads where students from the pastoral and unprogrammed traditions learn with and from each other. The value and quality of our work is in evidence in the ministry of alumni/ae who serve Friends and others around the world.

We invite those friends who share a vision for capable, qualified Friends' leadership to see ESR as a good philanthropic investment in the future—the future of the school, of debt-free graduates, of Friends ministry, of Friends meetings, and of the wider community. Preparation for ministry seldom leads to lucrative professions. For that reason, it is important for ESR to offer an affordable education to its students. Three revenue streams feed ESR's $1,500,000 annual budget: endowment income, annual fund income, and tuition income. The greater our reliance upon endowment and annual fund, the greater our ability to maintain a low tuition for our students.
